Take a Trip

Zindzi Azubuike
Foliage seen through a chain-link fence. Black and white. Text reads, "Take a Trip. Written by Zindzi Azubuike"

venture with me through your subconscious pathways

you understand as well as I do that this,

that this isn't any ordinary day

the heat doesn't seem to penetrate my skin

the sun rays seem to kiss the person within

my thoughts flower easier than downhill streams

don't wake me from our living dream

my feet don't seem to touch the ground

let's appreciate the silence for a moment, baby

don't make a sound

allow the feelings you deny to flow through your veins

you'll never be the same

but we both know that

don't we?

we're exploring a world many haven't seen

and now we question

how so many live without travelling

down the road not taken, unconsidered paths

but i’m floating and i don't want to come down

unless your arms are where I'm found

and darkness seems to be at end

and the light fades as our journeys blend

the sky so blue and the trees so green

colours more vivid them they've ever been

so take a trip with me

so we can both see

what I have seen

and you can live life as a dream

even momentarily
